I can't agree more about Senna. He was the unltimate driver. Was so sad that he died shortly after I started to get into F1.
When I was a wee boy though Mansell was considered a hero too. When you look back too to their era you have to say the competition was a lot stiffer than the guys have now.

Watching Ayrton and Nigel going head to head again at Monaco, is Magic! Apart from the brilliance of these two drivers, technology has spoilt that type of close racing, which we rarely see nowadays.

I have to agree with you there. But you have to admit its rare these days not only with the technology but also with the quality of the drivers. Back then you had a whole collection of drivers in fairly well matched cars fighting it out.
When you look at the grid now everyone says that the cars on pace are really close together and closer than they have been for years. They are let down though by drivers who wane away as teh race goes on, and all the aerodynamic bits disrupting cars from racing close. Hopeully the new rules will go a little way to making it easier to close up on people and give us some good fights. they don't have to have masses of overtaking, just a nice nose to tail battle will suffice, ala Senna and Mansell. |
