Forget James Bond’s Aston Martin DBS – this is Britain’s latest supercar...
Called the JJAD Project 001, the thriller has been designed by Jim Dowle, whose previous creations include the mighty Mercedes SLR McLaren and the lightweight Caparo T1. It promises to rival the Lotus Exige with a blend of dramatic styling and an advanced chassis, and weighs in at only 870kg.
Power comes from a 200bhp four-cylinder engine capable of impressive performance. It propels the car from 0-60mph in an estimated six seconds, and on to a top speed of 135mph.
Yet despite the straight-line pace, the team behind the new machine says the focus will be on driveability. Practicality is a major priority as well, with Dowle promising a generous amount of luggage space.
These first images of the two-seater are only computer-generated renderings, which proves that the project is still in its very early stages. However, Howle’s company is now working on a scale model, and this is expected to begin wind tunnel testing shortly.
A running prototype could be produced within the next 18 months, and the first cars are scheduled to reach customers some time in 2010. Prices are already being discussed, and the team aims to deliver the newcomer for a figure in the region of £35,000.
