Audi unveils TT TDI alongside red R8 TDI and mighty Q7 V12 TDI
![]() Three red-hot diesel Audis have taken centre stage on the German company's Geneva Motor Show stand. Top of the bill is the all-new TT TDI. Set to go on sale in the UK late this year, the oil-burner is powered by the firm's acclaimed 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, which returns impressive fuel economy of 50mpg and emits only 140g/km of CO2. Yet despite its eco-credentials, the diesel TT will be no slouch. With 168bhp, the Audi sprints from 0-62mph in only 7.5 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 140mph. And the 350Nm torque output should translate into devastating in-gear performance. The TDI will come in both Coupé and Roadster bodystyles, while a six-speed manual gearbox transfers the power to the quattro 4WD. Cashing in on the TDI limelight is another high-performance diesel model. The R8 V12 TDI is still officially a concept, but its reappearance with a bright red paint scheme shows the firm is committed to putting it into production. Finally, Audi's engineers have added the mighty 6.0-litre bi-turbo V12 powerplant from the supercar to the Q7 SUV. Unveiled in Geneva, the four-wheel-drive model uses its 500bhp and 1,000Nm of torque to accelerate from 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds. On sale late this year, the Q7 V12 TDI will cost around £75,000. Japanese manufacturer reveals UK prices of eagerly anticipated supercar.
![]() Prices have been announced for the storming Nissan GT-R. The Japanese supercar will be available in three trim options, starting at £52,995 for the 'entry-level' models. Next in the line-up is the £54,200 Premium Edition, which features an 11-speaker BOSE stereo and automatic headlamps. Finally, flagship Black Edition versions get Alcantara-like upholstery, anthracite wheels and will be priced at £55,500. Order books at the 10 designated GT-R dealers open on 2 April but would-be buyers can place their order online from 4 April – for a £3,500 deposit. The first cars will be delivered to customers in March 2009.

The VW that enthusiasts have been waiting for is revealed on the first day of the Geneva Motor Show.
![]() The Scirocco has been revealed. Journalists were jostling for position to get a clear view of the stunning new VW coupé, and these are the first pictures taken from the show floor. At 4,256mm long, 1,404mm high and 1,810mm wide, the car has classic coupé proportions. That makes it longer and wider than the Golf GTI, while it sits lower to the ground, too. The wheelbase is virtually identical to the hatchback’s at 2,578mm, so the coupé is claimed to offer a similar amount of space. Its styling is the work of a team led by Klaus Bischoff, chief designer at VW, and has been heavily influenced by the Iroc Concept displayed at the Paris expo back in 2006. Deep front air dams and a slim radiator grille are framed by dramatic twin-lens headlight units. The look is completed by slim clusters for the high-intensity tail-lamps, as well as a wide, practical hatch tailgate and a subtle aerodynamic spoiler. But even though Volkswagen has focused heavily on style, the Scirocco remains relatively versatile. There’s a 292-litre boot, which can expand to 755 litres with the rear seats folded. In Sport mode, the wheel firms up to provide the driver with more feedback. But when the Comfort setting is activated, the steering’s power assistance is increased. This would help to make the coupé easier to manoeuvre at low speeds or around town. By early 2009, the line-up will have expanded to include a number of TSI petrol and TDI diesel units, again linked to six-speed manuals or the maker’s new seven-speed DSG transmission. pics (source: AutoExpress) |

Enthusiasts are drawn to the hottest Jaguar XK yet at the Geneva Motor Show
![]() It was a Swiss show, but Jaguar was flying the flag for Britain with its sensational new XKR-S high performance range-topper. With a host of body modifications, chassis upgrades and a 174mph top speed, the Jag is aimed squarely at Aston Martin’s N400 and Maserati’s Granturismo Sport. Externally, the newcomer is identified by an aerodynamic bodykit that features a deeper airdam, side skirts, a larger boot-mounted spoiler and race car-style rear splitter below the rear bumper. Special 20-inch ‘Vortex’ alloy wheels hide a powerful Alcon R Performance braking system. Under the bonnet is the firm’s familiar 420bhp supercharged 4.0-litre V8. Connected to the quick-shifting semi-auto gearbox, it lets the XKR-S rocket from standstill to 60mph in 4.9 seconds, while tweaks to the engine management raise the top speed to 174mph. The active exhaust system means that the newcomer will have a sporty soundtrack to match its performance. ![]() The Jag will be just as effective in the corners as it is in a straight line. With bespoke springs, recalibrated active dampers and revised steering, the car will be the most involving drive in the manufacturer’s line-up. Inside, there are heavily bolstered leather sports seats embossed with the XKR-S logo, while piano black trim covers the dashboard and door trims. Only 200 examples will be built, and the range-topper is expected to cost £80,000 when it arrives in summer. ![]() (autoexpress) |
