In general (I can't think of a reason why but waiting to be proved wrong) higher rpm lead to faster laptimes. Since the engine is using higher revs this translates directly into the wheels spinning faster, therefore greater acceleration and higher top speed. The downside with using higher revs is that it puts more strain on the engine and all other connected components so it is more liable to break.
I use maximum revs in qualifying and then bring them down to default for a race. Just something worth noting with GTR2 is that the rev light doesn't change position respective to the limiter, so to use the extra revs to have to go further into the redline area. |
