I was the lucky one beeing invited on the first rollout of the thousands of invites. iRacing is only good for occasional race events, you know if you don´t have that time and mood to go for a league and keep practising etc. Therefore iRacing is a good platform to race against equal human drivers because of its Rating System but I also just given up after the first month because of the costs of the game in general and because of every extra money you have to pay for additional stuff.

Additional content costs money and that keeps my away from iRacing!

I think its not to bad if you buy what you need, I think its pointless buying a car/track that you are unable to use in any of the series that are running due to the lack of rating/licence

Default Voted - Have it... Love it..

Got my invite this week and was immediately caught up in the euphoria...

I actually love driving around in the soltice - at the moment. I have however already seen that I might get bored running around in the legend.

The physics and the way you have so much more car control is what has me hooked at the moment.

However - I don't know if I will stick with it, as it has already started to distract me from other racing commitments. I also don't know if I want to invest the money at this start up stage.

I will probably see how the first month goes and then decide from there. It will largely depend on whether I want to keep paying and if pick up races appeal to me. The game itself seems quite impressive to me.

However - GTRevo is coming.

Only so many hours in the week and so many other titles to race [titles that I get to pay for once].

Even though the pay thing is different and strange i found that the money i invested are of a great worth imho!

As for my fisrt impression i was really amazed of the feedback even with the Solstice! Not to mention the tracks!A totally different experience from what i ve been played so far!

Installed today, tried, and will not drive in it.

Did not feel anything special to me, car handling is nice, graphics also nice but much less fps for me then Race 07 for example.

Biggest let down for me is, that i did not feel at all any speed sensation in the car, like if i would have pushing a trolley in the local supermarket. I know, it maybe can be because of the rookie level low horsepowered practise cars, but i did not like it.

Also do not really like the interent based interface, maybe just because i am not getting used to it.

So, back to racing, but not with this sim.

Too expensive for me ... unless I can make some money back by doing it
All the physics etc might be right ... and would love to try it and see what it is all about, but I am here for the fun of it all, and at the prices they are charging, it is more than just a bit of fun ...

Give it more time, it does get better and better.

I've gone from liking it to REALLY enjoying it now, had a wonderful tight and very clean race last night - literally mm from the other guys bumper all the way lap after lap. It was fantastic!

I guess, I didn't like it at first but I really do now. In fact I've never liked oval racing at all but now I find myself compelled to take part!

These were my first and initial thoughts as well when I first gave it a go. But, I urge you to hang on in there at least until you've tried the Skip Barber. The Rookie Solstice is crap, but it's a hurdle to overcome before you enter the paradise ( or sort of, you know what i mean... ).

Regarding FPS, turning of shadows in the graphics options makes a HUGE difference but has negligible effect on the eye candy. I jumped from a average of 50 fps to 120-150, I'm now running with a fps cap on 84 to minimize the tearing effect.

The speed effect is very much non existent in the Solstice, but can be improved if you play around with the FOV setting. The speed sensation increase in a linear way as you progress through the car classes ( I've driven the Solstice, Legends, Skip Barber and the Formula Mazda so far)

The tracks are a riot! It's a nice feeling to know that the sim version is a exact replication of the real thing, would be great to try the real thing as a comparison I eagerly await new tracks to be added to the list. I've read in the iRacing forum that European tracks are in the pipeline...

With all that said, I'm still a bit put off by the pricing model. I hope that they start to add content to give me value for my $

At the end though, I see a lot of potential in iRacing and I intend to give it a few months try before I make any final decision ( I've spent about $100 on it so far so I better use it... )

Kind regards,
Karl

Me loving it to......think i will drop all other sims for this one even if im just still at rookie level. The behaving of the car feels natural for me, but what do i now who has never driven a solstice in rl, but only the feeling going down the corkscrew at laguna makes it worth the money, its almost thickeling in my stomache......bahh hate strange english words,,,,dont laugh

Well, after a initial trial period of one month I've made up my mind about iRacing. I've just signed up for a full year subscription, and at the same time I got all of the Road Courses and the Radical ( I now have the Solstice, Legends, Skip Barber, F Mazda and the Radical).

The physics of this sim is totally and radically different from anything else I've tried in the past. Switching between iRacing and Race07 really shows how much work that has gone into the iRacing. Granted, the sim is still lacking a bit in the content department but I'm sure they will add some great things in the near future. Things can only get better from here on!

My dilemma now is whether or not to drop Race07 / GTR EVO or continue to use them "on the weekends". I've noticed that my driving capabilities in Race07 drops at the same rate as my abilities progress in iRacing... funny thing...

Kind regards,
Karl

BTW, The Radical is by far the most thrilling and rewarding car out of the iRacing stable. Can't wait until I can join a Radical Series...

Im reassured to hear its not just me getting that effect, going to play an ISI based sim after iR just doesnt work,i find i need long sessions of practice, but still feel i am gradually slowing down in R07,the Seat is now like a form of punishment for me to drive.
Im going to sign up for a further 3 months and get a Skippy and probably the Barber Motorsport Park circuit, unless some of you guys have a better recommendation for a first track purchase?.

Your better off buying tracks that the Skippy series uses

Do get the Skippy, but reconsider the track choice. I'd get the tracks needed for the Skip Barber series before getting anything else.

Having said that, the Barber Motorsport Park is a great track - I bought it alongside all the other available road coarses a week ago

Kind regards,
Karl
