I have 3 ideas, I think it will be at least one of these:
1. Faulty motherboard. 2. Are you switching the computer off by button or in-PC? If you are switching it off by the button, check that the button is not damaged. If you are switching it off in-PC, it still might be the button turning it back on again. 3. A loose connection somewhere, causing short circuit. |

Hi Neo,
Sometimes with XP or Vista windows will crash with a bluescreen when you shutdown your PC. The default setting on XP or Vista is to automatically restart after such a failure, so you will never see the actual blue screen. Try to disable this option for XP with this: - Go to Control Panel and open System - Go to the Advanced tab - Click under Startup and Recovery (bottom part) at the Settings button - Under System Failure uncheck the Automatically restart checkbox - Click OK twice to confirm your change. Under Vista, I guess the same instruction, cannot see right now. No Vista available here. Try to shutdown. When you get a blue screen while shutting down, you can continue searching what the shutdown problem is. Most of the time a faulty driver. If it is restarting again without blue screen, I think you indeed have a hardware problem. Good luck! Let me know what the result is.

I switch off from Windows, then it restarts itself. When i switch off with button it is ok.
Also from safe mode it shuts down normally. About blue scren: it never shut down with blue screen, so it is not the case. I run XP 32 bit on that, since this is still the most reliable OS with the most up to date drivers, maybe later i will change to Vista when they fixed the child-diseases of it. p.s.: i just picked up at the shop a new motherboard, because they also think that this is the cause of the problem, so i will try to change it on Monday when i am back to the ukraine.

I don't think this will solve your problem Neo.
This really looks software related to me. • You have "automatically restart" selected. • The Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 or Direct CD 5.0 program is installed on your computer. First: 1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 2. On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery. 3. Clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure, and then click OK. The error message should remain on the screen so that you can record the error information. Look if you get this error: "Stop 0x0000000a(0x00000029,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x8046 6d7b" When this issue occurs, follow these troubleshooting steps: 1. Remove the Easy CD Creator software. 2. Click Start, click Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and then click OK. 3. Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Securi ty 4. Remove the Etetnt.mpd file that has a revision date of 1997. 5. Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es 6. Remove the following files: • Cdr4vsd • Cdralw2k • Cdr4_2k • Cdudf Look also in the BIOS for ACPI settings and put these on default. I hope this will help you out. |

I have had the same in the past, was just a driver issue. But with the automatic reboot you will never find this.

Well I have to say that I'm also having such problems lately. When I boot up my PC, running in Vista HP 64bit, I sometimes get a blue screen saying "Bad pool header". After the memory is cleared, the PC rebootes then. This problem occurs sometimes several times after eachother, but then the problem just solves itselfs...

Weeeh Neo!
Try to check the connected cables in your mainboard; precisely, mainboards have a control panel (jumpers) where you can connect all the most important cables that need voltage, like the HD led, the power led, and the cable for the power button of your case (that turn on the PC). If something isn't in the correct position, probably the cause is there. To know the correct position of connections in the control panel, you need your mainboard instruction book. download the pic-example (in evidence the 2 control panels)

• Cdr4vsd • Cdralw2k • Cdr4_2k • Cdudf Try to remove all cdrom burning programs, remove them in safe mode, so when the pc starts press F8 several times then choose safe mode. |

Ok guys, i am open for any new idea....
Uninstalled Direct CD and all CD writing programs, no any result on the restarting issue. Although i did not found in the regedit those file, either they are not existing, or the Find function do not work there... I saw that in that Directory you wrote Waku, i have several other directories as well, can you specify more where i shoudl look for those Cdr*.* files...? Also i have just the Services directory in CurrentControlSet dir, i do not have Security in there.... i have several Security dir, but not in the CurrentControlSet.... Also i changed the motherboard, of course no any result.... I am open now for any advice guys.... Thanks in advance.

OK Neo, i suggest you to remove all cd burning stuff, also all subfolders.
You can also look for an restore point, maybe they made one without installed sftware, choose the first restore point if possible. You can also try to remove all usb devices, maybe even disable usb in the bios and then test it. Can you give me the motherboard specs? Which bios you use etc. If you have an Ethernet card integrated into your motherboard, you may have hidden “wake on” settings that are harder to find. Logitech mouseware is also causing this problem sometimes, so remove it too if you have it. Finally if nothing can solve it, remove all added hardware. I mean remove the soundblaster x-fi. Only have a clean system, and then install remove windows XP. Install XP again with no extra hardware, install delivered drivers then try to shut it down. If this is ok add hardware one by one and try to shut down the system. It's alot of work. One tip, you have SLI, remove one 8800 and try it with one card first, when it works add the second card. Good luck and let us know what happend. |
