I did a test a few weeks ago but i hope they did fix some bad issues with SP1.

I advise you all to create a ghost image or another backup first, then try it.

Np m8 I would still stay far away from Vista.
It seems that the SP3 for XP makes it 10% faster then it is allready.
Cant wait !

*Bewarned before installing sp1 if you have any specialized hardware like a Zboard or a graphic tablet they may not work under SP1.

Downloading now, wondering whether or not wait to install it and let others be the public guinea pigs, or bite the bullet.

I suggest wait. I do have Vista Business 64bit here and so far it more disappoints me than making me happy. Loosing Drive Letters from now to then etc. and some other issues. Right now i´m still with XP Pro. here as long as Vista doesn´t get in such a stable state that XP is right now

Been running sp1 on my laptop for at least a couple of months with no problems Vista ultimate 32bit version. Also just rebuilt my gaming machine to Vista Ultimate x64 and installed sp1 which solved a problem i was having with volsnap errors in the event log. So so far no horror stories.

Good news. I'll leave the download running overnight & set aside the weekend to install it and sort out any problems. As well as installing a fresh copy of XP & Linux on my laptop.

If you get it through windows update it downloads all that it needs. The Microsoft website one is the standalone installer.

If you use windows update you will most likely have most if not all of the service pack already installed.
The service pack is really more for corporate users who do not allow access to windows update for the workstations on the estate.

You can check your windows vista version by opening the start menu and typing "winver" into the search box. The attachment shows the output.

It should do no harm to install the service pack as it will only update files that need it.

Cheers
Ricky

No idea why the 64 bit download is twice the size of the 32 bit but oh well. I installed it yesterday, went without a hitch. 25 minutes or there a bouts for install. Alot of people seem to have speed boosts, personally, I haven't noticed, maybe it only affects slower pc's.

Yes you have to manually search for updates to find it. Currently you cannot download on auto updates.
